The Australian Government has announced funding for two Cooperative Research Centres:
- The already-established CRC for Optimising Resource Extraction (CRC ORE) gets $34.45 million over six years to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of mineral extraction.
- The new CRC for Innovative Manufacturing (IM CRC) gets $40 million over seven years to assist Australian manufacturers to transition to high-value internationally competitive manufacturing.
Industry Minister Macfarlane says “more than 60 organisations, including multinationals, SMEs and peak industry bodies, will be involved in these CRCs. they will work closely with the new Industry Growth Centres to address common goals and priorities.
The CRC ORE is based in Brisbane, The IM CRC will be headquartered in Melbourne. It will aim to establish knowledge-intensive competitive industries in areas of global growth, including additive manufacturing, lightweight robotics and medical devices.
